When LILYA designer Lisa Chedanne returned from a trip to Rio de Janiero, Brazil earlier this year, she described it to be even more sexy and spectacular than you could even imagine. A city full of natural beauty and a culture that is incredibly vibrant and alive, Lisa’s trip soon became a main source of design inspiration for our Spring/Summer 2016 collection. We sat down with Lisa asking her to give us her top tips on what to, see, do and explore in Rio.
EAT: if you aren’t a vegetarian… you should try an authentic Brazilian Steakhouse like Fogo de Chão.
STAY: For a special experience, I love, La Suite by Dussol in Joatinga, It’s a small luxurious boutique hotel with incredible décor and spectacular sweeping views from mountain to ocean near the beautiful Praia De Joatinga.
EXPLORE: As well as the things you must see in Rio, like Sugarloaf, Christ the Redeemer, Ipanema and Copacabana. Head 20 miles west of Ipanema to find amazing beaches, scenery and surf. Head out for a walk through the forests of the Tijuca National Park, where you’ll find waterfalls, lookouts with spectacular views of the city and you’ll be sure to spot a monkey or two!
SHOP: Take a trip just west of Ipanema Beach to stroll the leafy streets of Leblon. Here you find some beautiful boutiques like Farm Rio and Osklen. You also can’t go past exploring the hippie markets in Ipanema for a lively and eclectic shopping experience.
RELAX: Stroll through the Jardin Botanico or around the lake in the Lagoa district.
CHECK OUT: Just 2 hours drive from Rio is Buzios, a beautiful resort town made popular by Brigitte Bardot and her Brazilian boyfriend in the 60’s. it has narrow cobblestone streets and picturesque waterfront, great restaurants and shops and is surrounded by 17 spectacular beaches.
HOT TIP: Learn some basic Portuguese before you go and try wearing a smaller bikini to fit in with the crowd! Here you really can embrace your body and celebrate your curves, so why NOT!!!!!
MUST DO: You must absolutely do the drive around from Barra da Tijuca along the Niemeyer Avenue through Sao Conrado Leblon and Ipanema. The scenery is amazing!!!!! Another recommendation is to go to the top of Sugarloaf Mountain towards the end of the day and enjoy the colourful sunset and then watch the city light up from above as night falls! It’s truly magical. I was lucky enough to do a helicopter ride over the beaches and around Christ the Redeemer and it’s an experience I’ll never forget!
LIVE LIKE A LOCAL: Drink coconut water at the beach and jump of the rocks at Arpoador, a small section of beach between Ipanema and Copacabana.
3 THINGS TO PACK:
A bikini, although you will want to buy one when you get there!
A camera.
Some sexy and colourful summer clothes because even in winter it’s warm and sunny!
SOUVENIR: Pick up a pair of the new Havaianas ‘flat’ flip flops that haven’t yet launched in Australia!
NEXT: Next trip I’ll definitely be heading to Santa Teresa, to check out the hilly bohemian district. I can’t wait to go back!!!!!
